The dictionary describes devotions as strong
affection, loyalty: the act of devoting. As we take time to have our daily devotions,
we are spending quality time with our Lord.
We are showing Him our deep affection as
we are set aside time for Him, and also our loyalty.
Devotions can be reading the Scriptures, or
wonderful articles and books that have
been penned by many wonderful Christians. Articles can be from experiences
that God has allowed in their lives, and they
are able to share with others. Many are
inspired by the Holy Spirit.
I have found in my personal life, that when
I was way down in the valley, discouraged and ready to give up, it was then that I really got serious, and started having devotions every day.
When I think back, I think of how many years I had
wasted not spending quality time with the Lord.
That doesn't mean that I wasn't a good Christian,
but I had cheated myself from growing deeper
in the Word. As we feed our human bodies, our
souls also need constant nourishment. What we
receive in our Sunday church services is not
sufficient for us to have a deeper walk with God.
One devotional book which was a great help
for me having a deeper walk with Christ was
"Come Away My Beloved" by Frances J. Roberts.
This is one of the chapters from the book
"Cleanse The Sanctuary"
With a WHOLE HEART have I commanded
that ye love Me, and that ye serve Me with
undivided loyalty. Ye cannot serve two
masters. Purge out, therefore, the old leaven,
and make clean the vessels. Cleanse the
sanctuary, and bring Me thy sacrifices
with pure hearts and clean hands. The
sacrifices of contrite hearts I shall not
despise.
For I long after thee with a love that embraces
eternity. Though thou goest astray, I will surely
draw thee back. Though thy love grow cold and
thine heart indifferent, if thou shalt listen,
thou shalt surely hear My voice. When thou
turnest to Me, I shall bridge the gap. For
though ye have strayed, I have not left thee.
Wherever ye turn to Me in love and confession,
lo, I am there in the midst of thee.
My prayer is that as you journey through
the many devotional pages and sites that
I have for you here, that you, too, will have
a deeper walk with God.
Love, Mrs. P
